Woman Set Free began as a God-given vision with a mission of teaching God’s Word and sharing Christ’s love with women who have experienced life behind prison bars. This vision started its journey toward reality in the spring of 2006 when our current president received the vision to begin a prison ministry by women for women. The Lord began bringing together and forming a team, which even now continues to grow.
The group became a corporation in May 2006, and was granted 501(c)(3) non-profit status in August 2006. The corporate, non-profit status allows Woman Set Free to function independently as an altruistic, faith-based ministry. With this status, the ministry may freely seek volunteers, support, and funding from a range of resources, among them individuals, businesses, and community groups as well as churches and other faith-based organizations.
Teaching in each Woman Set Free service behind prison walls is based solely on the Word of God, guided by the Holy Spirit, and made applicable for each woman who chooses to attend. Each service is approximately two hours in length, with time given to praise, worship, and Bible study in both large and small group settings. The small group setting provides valuable time for ministry volunteers to study and pray with attendees as well as mentor them in a way that will equip them with spiritual experiences they can rely on beyond as well as behind prison walls. Attendees are given the opportunity to complete Bible-based homework assignments based on each lesson that include scripture memorization and a time of prayerful reflection. They are rewarded with a certificate after attending four services and completing homework assignments from the services. Each service is concluded with a creative application of the lesson and an uplifting dismissal song.
Woman Set Free currently visits Rockwall County Jail in Rockwall Texas and Hunt County Jail in Greenville, Texas offering Woman Set Free Church, Reflections, The Well, and 119:105 in both. We look forward to expanding our ministry as the Lord allows.
How To Serve As A Volunteer
You may serve as a volunteer in Woman Set Free in four ways:
Inside the Walls
Join other volunteers in conducting regularly scheduled worship and Bible study sessions behind the prison walls. Attendance at Woman Set Free planning meetings is required for those who serve inside the walls.
Outside the Walls
Volunteer to use your unique, spiritual gifts to support Woman Set Free outside the Walls. God has given each of us spiritual gifts, and there is a place in Woman Set Free where you can use your gift to make a difference in a woman’s life. Attendance at Woman Set Free planning meetings may be required for those who serve outside the walls.
Volunteer to serve on a special project or make a special contribution as a Good Neighbor. No meeting attendance is required for participation as a Good Neighbor.
Prayer Team Member
Our ministry was founded on prayer and we believe that seeking our Lord’s will, through prayer, is the most important thing we can do.
As a Woman Set Free Prayer Team Member you will be made aware of any requests, needs, and most importantly praises so that you might serve effectively as a part of our ministry. Your only commitment to us is your faithfulness to pray. You will need an email address in order to participate. We promise to keep your name and email address confidential. You will receive an email with any new or existing prayer requests after each Woman Set Free team meeting. Our team meetings occur the third Friday of every month. Please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org if you would like to be a part of this exciting team.
